Trumpet Timbre Quality Dataset
This dataset provides annotated trumpet recordings for studying perceived timbre quality and sound-production efficiency. The published Zenodo set contains 1,481 clean, isolated trumpet-tone audio samples from 17 selected players with different levels of expertise.
Contents and preparation
The 1,481 published samples come from 17 selected players. They were selected from a larger source collection of more than 19,000 segmented tones recorded from 110 trumpet players.
Performers and recording context
The selected players represent different levels of expertise. Each was recorded across chromatic pitches at three dynamic levels: piano, mezzoforte, and forte.
Expert annotation
Expert musicians annotated perceived sound-production efficiency using four labels: 1 Poor, 2 Fair, 3 Good, and 4 Excellent.
Potential uses
The annotated audio can support research in music information retrieval, audio analysis, and machine learning, while also informing work on trumpet acoustics and music pedagogy.
